CogniAgent saves versions of a workflow automatically as it changes. If an edit breaks something, you can see what the workflow looked like before and go back to it.

Open version history

Click the Version history button in the editor header. Versions are grouped by day (Today, Yesterday, then the date). Each one shows who made the change and how many steps it has. Use Show older versions to go further back.

When a version is saved

One stretch of editing becomes one version, not one per change. A version is saved:
  • A couple of minutes after you stop editing. During a long session, one is saved at least every 10 minutes.
  • When the last person editing closes the workflow.
  • When you open version history, if the workflow changed since the last version. This includes changes made by the Concierge or through MCP while nobody had the workflow open.
  • Before a restore, so you can return to how the workflow was before it.
While you edit, versions are saved through live sync. If the connection drops, version history says so; reload the page to reconnect. Changes made while it was not connected are kept in the workflow, and the next version saved includes them.

How long versions are kept

Autosaved versions are removed after 30 days, and the oldest ones are removed once a workflow has more than 100. Versions saved before a restore and checkpoints are kept until the workflow is deleted. The newest version of a workflow is always kept, however old it is.

Checkpoints

A checkpoint is a version you named, such as “Before launch”. It is kept until someone removes it, so it is still there long after the autosaves around it are gone. A workflow keeps up to 20 checkpoints. Only people who can edit the workflow can create, rename or remove them.
  • Create checkpoint at the top of version history keeps the workflow as it is now.
  • To name an earlier autosave, select it and click Make checkpoint.
  • A checkpoint shows its name with a bookmark in the list. Click Checkpoints to see only them.
  • To change one, select it and click Rename or Remove checkpoint. Removing it does not delete the version: it stays in the list as an autosave and is cleaned up like the others.
When a workflow already has 20, creating another asks which one to replace. The one you choose becomes an autosave again. Restoring a checkpoint works like restoring any other version.

Restore a version

1

Select a version

Select a version in the list. A sentence says what restoring it changes, for example how many steps it brings back, removes or changes, and whether connections or variables change.
2

Click Restore this version

Only people who can edit the workflow see this button. A confirmation explains what will happen.
3

Confirm

The workflow goes back to that version.
Before restoring, the current state is saved as a version, so you can return to it. If the workflow is on, restoring turns it off. Turn it on again when you have checked the restored steps.
